HT Fall Roundup for Oct. 5: HT GVB Captures Chicago Prep title; defeats Christ the King 25-9, 25-10

In a complete team effort, the Lady Tigers of Holy Trinity dispatched visiting Christ the King Gladiators by scores of 25-9, 25-10 for HT's 19th win in this 2017 fall campaign.
And in the process, HT moved to within one victory of tying the girls volleyball program record of 20 wins which was set back in 1997.
That '97 Lady Tigers squad finished with a 20-12 record, winning the Blue conference title of the Girls Athletic Conference and subsequently the Blue Division tourney title to move to 19-12 overall prior to state tourney action.
Their 20th win came at home in the semifinal round of state regional play when they defeated Prov/St. Mel.
Tonight's team effort was set from the opening serve thru the two-game match, as the Lady Tigers never trailed.
The victory moved the 2017 squad record to 19-1 overall and 8-0 in the Chicago Prep and clinched the 2017 conference title.
Featured tonight were: Sakayah Garity (9 kills, one block); Cece Gardner (one kill, 12 service points with 5 aces and one block); Karol Gonzalez (18 set assists, nine service points and 6 aces); Fatima Oliatan (4 kills); Viviana Quezada (1 kills, two ace serves); and Star Brooks (2 kills).
Also playing were Rachel Asante (1 kill), Abiola Salmon; Emily Gallegos; Evelyn Padilla; Silvia Lepe and Breanna Cruz.
HT SERVING: 49 serve attempts with 43 made for an 88% average with 20 ace serves.
ALSO a big shout-out to the Lady Tiger coaching staff: to assistant coaches Qiana Young, who was a member of the 1997 squad and current Junior Varsity coach and to Tom Raehl HT's freshmen coach.
And special kudos to the HT's head coach Marcie Tokarczyk for her leadership and guidance with the varsity team, her coaches and ALL the HT players
in this year's program.

SO WHAT'S NEXT? Tomorrow Friday (Oct. 6) HT visits to local rival Josephinum high with 2 matches set to begin at 4:30pm and 5:30pm.
Next week both the Jv and varsity will have matches versus Lake View high (SENIOR NIGHT) Thursday, Oct. 12.

Then both squads will also be preparing to compete in the Chicago Prep conference tourneys -- Jv and Varsity -- the following week. State tourney action follows.
