Lady Tigers advance to the regional title match on Halloween vs. Francis Parker

HT defeats local rival Noble Street Charter -- 23-25, 25-22, 25-22:

Playing from behind for most of the evening, the Lady Tigers found a way to come back for victory, this after after dropping game one to the Golden Tigers, and for their efforts, HT advances to IHSA 2A regional title match versus Francis Parker on Halloween evening.

Tuesday in game one, Noble street established a lead early, and kept HT at bay by three or four points throughout most of this first set til HT bolted back to take only their second lead of the game at 23-22. However, two ball handling errors and an attack that went long by the Lady Tigers let Noble take game one at 25-23.

Game two once again saw Noble Street move to leads of 6-2 and 12-5 before Holy Trinity stormed back to trail by one point at 11-12 on kills by Jennifer Rios off a tip and an ace serve by Moshay Turner.

It became deadlocked at 14-all of a block by Alyssa Hernandez, but Noble Street regained the lead at 18-15 after some ball handling errors by Holy Trinity.

Finally, a kill by HT's Lizette Gallegos off a Rios set moved HT back into contention at 22-all and after one last time out by Noble Street at 23-22 HT, Turner served two aces for the win in set two.

Game 3: Noble Street gained a 10-8 lead midway into this third and deciding set and from there it went back-and-forth with Noble leading by one at 19-18 before HT caught their foe at 21-all.

From there, HT's Jocelyne Saldago finished things up for the number 2 seeded Lady Tigers, serving the last three points and a 25-22 victory.

HT (13-9 overall) will face the host school Francis Parker on Halloween evening at 6 p.m.

Leading the way for Holy Trinity were Alyssa Hernandez (10 kills, three blocks); Kyra Hayes (six kills, two blocks); Jennifer Rios (16 set assists); Moshay Turner (9 digs; 8 service points); Jocelyn Salgado (7 service points, four digs); and Lizette Gallegos (seven service points).

LADY TIGER VB NOTES: Thursday's regional visit is the fourth consecutive regional appearance for coach Marcelina Tokarczyk and her Tigers.

Fall 2016 -- lost to Francis Parker: 14 wins; 7 loses;

Fall 2017 -- won vs. Francis Parker: 26 wins; 2 losses;

Fall 2018 -- won vs. Disney II: 20 wins; 7 loses;

Fall 2019 -- ?? vs. Francis Parker: 13 wins; 8 loses.

Coach T. in this time period has earned a 75% percentage, winning 73 matches against just 24 setbacks. Congrats to coach T., coaches Qiana Young and Tom Raehl for all they provide to the HT girls volleyball program.
