Barnes Captures CPC XC Individual Title; HT Jv gvb opens Conference playoffs tonight; HT soccer opens state play Wednesday vs. Rauner

BARNES @ Chicago Prep meet Oct. 9 -- provided by S. Gladden.

HT Senior Mellanie Barnes ran away from the field to capture the CPC XC girls varsity championship on Monday afternoon at "Pooch Park" in Skokie. She finished the 3 mile race in 20:54 and marks the second time this season she's been under 21 minutes for the 3 mile distance.

The race was a two person contest from the beginning as she ran side by side with Rachel Schwartz from Ida Crown. As they approached the the last half mile, Mellanie pressed the pace.
The Ida Crown runner could not cover Mellanie's surge and with just over 400 meters to the finish, it was clear that Mellanie would capture the championship.
