HT Girls Bk -- Charleme Szumilas Thanksgiving tourney HT & Speer will battle Monday for the tournament title
First 2 days of action has both Speer & the Lady Tigers at 2-0
The second annual HT Girls Thanksgiving tourney held in memory of Ms. Charlene Szumilas and played IN THE JUNGLE at the Bucktown school has completed its first two rounds of play featuring the host Lady Tigers, Noble Speer Academy, Cristo Rey and Noble UIC Charter.
HONORING MS. SZUMILAS
In a special way, the Holy Trinity high school Athletic Department is honoring Ms. Szumilas by naming this annual girls Thanksgiving tourney in her memory.
Ms. Szumilas served as Principal of Holy Trinity high school from 1996 to 2010 and in her “extra” time graciously assisted the HT Athletic department, working many hours after school to serve as scorekeeper for girls/boys volleyball and basketball contests.
She was also integral part of the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference (GCAC) for many years serving the member schools as a member of their executive board amd was inducted to the GCAC Hall of Fame in 2005.
She and brought that dedication, commitment and sacrifice to the halls of Holy Trinity in 1996 becoming HT’s first female principal.
Unfortunately, Ms. Szumilas passed away in January of 2015 after a battle with cancer.
It is with special heart-felt pride that the Holy Trinity HS Athletic department presents the championship plaque of the tourney to her memory each year.
