HT Girls Volleyball Captures Opener @ Home

Defeats Visiting Catalyst/Maria by scores of 25-17, 25-17

Using late scoring bursts in both games, the Lady Tigers defeated visiting Wolves of Catalyst-Maria by identical scores of 25-17, 25-17 en route to their first victory on the season in this non-conference affair.
In game one, leading by just two points at 15-13, junior Starr Brooks served four straight including
three aces to move HT to a 19 to 13 advantage.
Senior Fatima Olaitan then added two aces of her own for points 23 and 24 before Catalyst/Maria
had a ball-handling error and HT the victory at the eight-point margin.
In game two, the momentum went back and forth til at 16-all, junior Cici Gardner served three straight
points to move HT to a 20-16 lead and senior Sakayah Garity then closed things out serving the last
four points including three aces to seal the match one victory.
Garity had 9 kills and seven service points on the day, while Gardner added 10 service points and two
kills to the mix. Teammates Karol Gonzalez and Evelyn Padilla each had seven set assists.

HT SERVING: 50 attempts; 38 made for a 76% average with 19 ace serves.

NEXT: A visit from local rival Noble Street Charter tomorrow August 23. The Jv match is scheduled
to begin at 5pm and the varsity to follow about 6pm @ HT.
