HT Gvb Captures CPC title

2nd consecutive tourney title.

HT (18-6 overall) captured their second consecutive Chicago Prep Conference tournament title with a 25-20, 25-17 defeat of Walther Christian.
The Tigers were also co-champions during regular season action for the 2nd year in a row.
Season standings saw four-teams tied for the top spot with 8-2 records: Walther Christian, which received the top seed in this just completed end-of-year
tourney; HT (seeded #2); Northtown Charter (seed #3) and Hope Academy (seed #4).
The victory tonight by Holy Trinity evened up the season versus the Broncos of Walther Christian one match each. The Broncos had defeated the Lady Tigers in regular season play but were not able to do so tonight in the title match at Cristo Rey Jesuit high school.

THE TITLE MATCH:
It was an even match between the top two teams in conference. In game one, Walther Christian held a five-point lead midway thru the initial game, but HT answered late to take game one by a 5-point margin.
The Tigers used this momentum from late in game one to control game two and win by a final score of 25-17.
Leading the way for HT were Star Brooks (four kills, nine service points, 2 aces and one block); Cece Gardner (four kills and seven service points); Rachel Asante (six kills); Karol Gonzales (nine service points; 14 set assists) and Angela Ponce (four kills).

Holy Trinity All-Conference selections: Cierra Gardner, Karol Gonzalez and Moshay Turner. Tournament MVP: Karol Gonzalez.

NEXT: IHSA 2A regional action @ Christ the King. Holy Trinity plays the winner of the host (Christ the King) and Our Lady of Tepeyac. This semifinal match takes place Tuesday, October 23rd at 5:30 p.m.
