HT trailed early by deficits of 5-10 and 6-13 to host Cristo Rey Sept. 14th before rebounding to sweep the Cristeras by scores of 25-22, 25-14.
HT's Fatima Olaitan started the comeback for the Lady Tigers with five service points to move HT to within one as 12-13 midway thru game one. This allowed the squad to regroup and take control of this important Chicago Prep Conference match.
Evelyn Padilla then hit two service point of her own which allowed the team to gain their first lead at 20-19, since early in game one.
Sui Len then scored points 22 and 23 on serve and Olaitan closed game one with point 25 and the Tigers were on the move.
Game two was all Holy Trinity as they moved to leads of 4-1 and to as much as 17-7 before the Cristeras made a run that cut a 22-8 HT lead to 22-13.
However, HT's Cece Gardner then aced point 24 and the Cristeras had a ball handling error that ended game two and match in favor of Holy Trinity by a score of 25-14.
On the day, HT (7-0 overall and now 3-0 in the Chicago Prep) was led by Sakayah Garity (11 kills, two blocks); Karol Gonzalez (19 set assists,
five service points and three aces); Olaitan (5 kills) and Gardner (six service points, five kills).
Teammates Padilla (6 service points) and Sui Len (6 digs and four service points) rounded out the show.
HT SERVING: 49 attempts with 46 made for a 94% average with 9 ace serves.
NEXT for the Varsity: @ the Westmont tourney this Saturday, Sept. 16 where HT will face Christ the King, host Westmont and St. Joseph Westchester
in a three-match affair.
For the JV; @ Cristo Rey: the Cristeras defeated HT's younger squad by scores of 25-18, 25-17. HT featured Alyssa Hernandes who posted four kills and Kristina Sieta who had three set assists. The Jv are home for two matches this Saturday, the 16th in a mimi-tourney of their own.
