HT Sports: GBK Thanksgiving wrap: ITW Speer Prevails @ Charlene Szumilas Tourney; Pride Tops the Lady Tigers
Tigers Just Short of Taking a Second Straight Championship.

The Lady Tigers playing one of their best games of the year fell just short of capturing the second Charlene Szumilas Thanksgiving tourney title as ITW Speer prevailed in the last day of this tourney by a three-point margin.
HT led by eight point through the first half moving to a 20 to 12 halftime lead. But a 20-7 third quarter point explosion by the visitors led by sophomore Nyah Daniels (14 points to lead all scorers in the contest) who was named to All-Tournament team for her effort and also six from teammate Jada Jefferson moved Speer to a five-point lead that they never relinquished.
At the end of three quarters Speer led 32-27, but HT did not fold, as seniors Nikyla Stanton and Kurteisha Singleton and junion Fatima Olatin converted two buckets each to allow the Tigers to close to 42-39 with less than a minute to play.
"Fatima was dominant on the boards tonight (she had 33 total rebounds for the 3-day tourney) and (sophomore) Jada White was a big contributor as well," commented Tiger head coach Tim Sheehan. "Also Stanton was solid handling her role." he added.
However, the Pride proved to be the top team this night as Daniels scored the last 10 points for the victory margin.
