HT Spring Sports Roundup for 05.12.17

HT Girls Track features a state-bound effort by Junior Mellanie Barnes; Bvb falls in 3 @ Latin; GSB drops a game to Francis Parker.

Lady Tigers score 24 points and finish 7th at the Elmhurst Sectional Meet

Big news of the night - Mellanie Barnes qualified for the State Finals by posting a new PR and
finishing second in the 800 meter run. She becomes the first Lady Tiger to qualify for the
state finals since Caretha Carroll qualified in 2000 and 2001. Four more PRs were set
Thursday afternoon by Abiola Salimon and Moshay Turner. Abiola lowered her personal
records in the 100 and 300 meter hurdle events. Not to be outdone, Moshay lowered her
personal records in the 100 and 400 meter sprints. All four times were good enough to enable
the ladies to bring home sectional medals.

HT Boys Volleyball falls @ Lating (05.11.17)
The Tigers dropped a non-conference match on the road at the Latin School yesterday in a 3-game
match to the Romans by scores of 26-24, 14-25, 19-25
Featured for the Tigers: Demetrius Reeves (10 kills, three blocks and 5 service points with one
ace); Jonathan Vega (12 set assists, 8 service points); Edgar Godinez (1 kill, one block and one
ace); and Alex Munoz (3 kills, three blocks, 4 service points and 2 aces).
The Tigers now prepare for the Chicago Prep conference playoffs set to begin next Monday, May 15
at home where they will play the winner of the first match of the evening -- Hope Academy vs.
Rochelle-Zell. With a win on Monday, the Tigers would advance to Wednesday's title round to be
played at Cristo Rey.

HT drops Girls Softball tilt to Francis Parker:
Francis Parker 17, HT 7: Featured for the Lady Tigers were Armari Pace who hit a homerun.
HT did have a double play on defense turned by Inez Cerna and Armani Pace.
