Spring teams enjoying early start of season as Mother Nature and the weather cooperate!

Lady Tigers Open the 2016 Track Season

On Saturday afternoon the Lady Tigers competed in the GCAC Indoor Track and Field Championship. Competing in her first indoor competition, Abiola Salimon finished 15th in the 60 meter hurdle event, 20th in the 200 meter sprint and 24th in the 60 meter sprint. Mellanie Barnes competing for the first time in the 800 meter run finished 16th. Fernanda Anaya a new comer to track and field experienced her first race in the 3200 meter run. The ladies will shift their attention to the outdoor season as they begin preparation for their first outdoor meet in mid-April. Congratulations to each on their efforts to date and good luck going forward.

The Lady Tigers opened their 2016 season with a 7-0 win against Wells @ Humboldt Park March 18. Tiger goals were scored by Monica Zavala (2), Daaja Hobson (1), Mireya Barajas (1), Sui Za Len (1),

Emily Gallegos (1), and Joseline Mena. Assists were recorded by Daaja Hobson, Monica Zavala, Vanessa Cardenas.

"It was a convincing win by the Tigers who dominated play both on defense and offense," stated Tiger head coach Larry Martin.

Esmeralda Flores had a shut out in goal and was really tested throughout the home contest.

NEXT UP: The Tigers travel to the lakefront to face rival St. Benedict high on Wednesday March 23 @ 4:30pm.
