The 37th and final running of the Luther North Invitational was a memorable day for the Holy Trinity Track teams with new personal or season best showings for every team member in one or more events. Both the men and women finished 9th overall.
Hafeez Soberu captured the 100 and 200 meter sprint titles while setting PRs in both events. His 100 meter time 11.36 was under the state qualifying time and gives him a good chance to be on the podium at the Sectional Qualifying meet in early May. In capturing the 200 meter title, Hafeez missed the state qualifying standard for the half lap event by one tenth of a second. He concluded his day with a sixth place finish in the 400 meter sprint. Lavelle Brown also set PRs in the 100 and 200 meter events finishing 8th and 9th respectively. Manny Davis captured fifth place in the long jump with a PR.

On the women’s side, Abiola Salimon lowered her PR in the century sprint, putting the state qualifying mark, 12.96, within her reach. Abi also medaled in the half lap sprint, 100 meter high hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. Freshman Moshay Turner had a big day with PRs in the 100, 200 and 400 meter sprints, securing hardware in the 400 with a 4th place finish. Mellanie Barnes closed out the scoring and medals for the Lady Tigers with a season best time in the 800 meter run and a 4th place finish.
The boys will be in action on Friday at the Don Relays hosted by Notre Dame High School in Niles, while the Lady Tigers begin prep for the GCAC Outdoor Championship on May 6th at Loyola High School in Wilmette.
SPECIAL NOTE: Interesting side note - Holy Trinity has participated in every Luther North Invitational for the past 34 years. There are no records available for the first three, but since records have been kept, the TIGERS have participated. HOLY TRINITY is the only school to maintain a perfect attendance record.
