the 15th annual observance with events featuring tastings, live
music, donations & special guests

– Jewel-Osco will recognize Black History Month in
marking its 15th annual “Taste of Black History” event, which honors
contributions and achievements of the African-American community by partnering
with more than 20 minority-owned businesses in a four-day celebration
featuring  live jazz music by ZZAJE, and in-store sampling stations
sponsored by popular African-American vendors including:

The
celebration will kick off on Thursday, February 6th from 3pm-7pm at
the Jewel-Osco at 87 W. 87th Street in Chicago, IL.  Chicago
Bears Defensive Tackle Henry Melton will make a special appearance from
5:00pm-6:30pm during the February 6th festivities.  Melton will
be signing autographs in support of food donations benefitting the South
Side/Wabash YMCA of Metro Chicago.  As owner of Ambassador Organics,™
Carol Moseley Braun will also be making a special appearance that day to meet
and greet with shoppers, and explain to them the health and benefits of organic
foods and sustainability.

Chicagoland area is rich with so many different cultures, and these communities
define the neighborhoods where we are proud to serve as their grocer,” said
Jewel-Osco President, Jim Rice. “Jewel-Osco is honored to recognize and
celebrate Black History Month with the local customers, and we are excited to
join in the festivities alongside those who observe this time.”



 



Following
the kick-off event, the Black History Month celebration will continue with a
series of in-store culinary events featuring authentic African -American
dishes.  The events will take place:
