Police Detective Punched in the Face at Wicker Park Restaurant
Police responded late Monday and searched the area for four men.

Chicago Police responded in force and searched the streets of Wicker Park for four men after a police detective was punched in the face at a restaurant late Monday. The men also attacked the doorman and a waiter at Piece Brewery and Pizza, 1927 W. North Ave., according to police.
DNAinfo Chicago spoke with restaurant manager Eric Frietzsche, who said the men came in late and were acting strangely.
“A little bit of testosterone, a little weird. It looked like they had come from a Cubs game, and one of them was wearing a Cubs shirt,” Frietzsche said.

After the doorman went to check on the men because of their behavior, one of the men punched the doorman and sucker-punched their server, prompting Frietzsche to call police. Three of the men at the table were involved in the attack, said Frietzsche said.
Around that time, about 10:25 p.m., an on-duty detective who happened to be near Piece walked over to intervene, and he, too, was punched.
