Police Warn Of Near West Car Thefts

Thieves are taking advantage of unlocked vehicles, police warned.

CHICAGO — Police sent a community alert warning of car thefts in the 12th police district. Thieves have been targeting vehicles on Madison, Jackson, Morgan and Van Buren during daytime hours, police said.

Police said that in most cases, the offenders went into unlocked vehicles.

Police said the thefts occurred in the following locations:

• 900 block of West Madison St. on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.
• 800 block of West Jackson Blvd., either Thursday of Friday, Oct. 11-12 between 11:45 p.m. – 12:45 a.m.
• 900 block of West Madison St. on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:20 a.m.
• 100 block of South Morgan St. on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 9:55 a.m.
• 700 block of West Van Buren St., Saturday, Oct. 13 at 6:35 p.m.
