'Season's Geekings' From Gorilla Tango

Gorilla Tango's holiday revue combines the company's signature burlesque parodies with classic holiday themes.

Gorilla Tango Theatre is offering a chance to "put a little jingle in your jangle" with the Friday premiere of "Season's Geekings: A Gorilla Tango Burlesque Holiday Special."

The show takes routines and characters from the company's previous burlesque geek culture parodies—which run the gamut from Super Mario Bros. and Star Wars to Indiana Jones and The Walking Dead—and threads them together in an original holiday tale.

"Mario is playing kind of a Santa-like character," said co-director Slightly Spitfire. "And he is visiting all the characters in our geek realm, and they are doing holiday versions of characters from our different shows. ... Like, Toad from Mario Brothers does his own little holiday strip, and things of that nature."

"Season's Geekings" is Gorilla Tango Burlesque's first seasonal revue, and in keeping with the pop culture tradition of previous shows, many of the skits are parodies of well-known holiday stories.

"Since we specialize in parodies, I kind of pulled from some popular Christmas things like A Christmas Story," Spitfire said. "We play on Festivus from 'Seinfeld' a lot. So just kind of using some well-known humorous holiday stories and playing them ourselves."

According to Spitfire, the show's striptease routines will also be set to popular holiday favorites like Carol of the Bells, the Nutcracker Suite, and Wham!'s Last Christmas. The show will run on Friday nights through Dec. 21. (The company's existing burlesque revues will continue to run as scheduled.)

Spitfire is convinced that fans of the previous shows will have a good time with "Season's Geekings."

"If you're a fan of pop culture and you enjoy some goofy, goofy holiday fun, and you're looking for something a little different to celebrate the holidays, this would be a good show," she said. "It's campy, it's fun, you know, you're guaranteed to hoot and holler and probably sing along with some of the songs. A little something different for the holidays."
