BWP Residents Shop for Schools, Donate Dollars

The Wicker Park-Bucktown Chamber of Commerce has calculated the total amount of sales and donations generated by its Shop For Schools program, which lasted from Dec. 1 to Dec. 9.

With the chaos of the holiday season winding down, local organizations have the chance to analyze the success of their holiday programs.

The Wicker Park-Bucktown Chamber of Commerce has finished calculating the results of its Shop for Schools initiative, which was held as part of the Unwrap WPB holiday promotional campaign. Participating retailers donated a percentage of certain sales between Dec. 1 and 9 to local schools.

The campaign generated a total of $3,744.10 in sales for the participating businesses, according to special events coordinator Clover Morell. The total amount donated to each school is as follows:

"If a shopper came into the store and wanted to participate in the Shop For Schools program, what they would do is attach their receipt to a door hanger that we issued to all of the participating schools and businesses and then submit it to us with the school of their choice listed," Morell said.

She called the results from this year's Shop for Schools campaign "encouraging," considering that it was the program's first year. She said the chamber hopes to expand the program's scope next year.

"We would like to include as many businesses as possible so that the shopping options would increase, and therefore we could hopefully increase the donations," she said.
