Thief Targeting Victims In North Side Restaurants, Coffee Shops

The robber stole people's property in Wicker Park, Logan Square and Lincoln Park, police warned.

CHICAGO — A thief has been going after people sitting in North Side coffee shops and restaurants and stealing their property, police warned in a community alert Friday. At leasts eight thefts were reported throughout September and October, police said.

The thief distracted the victims by soliciting for a charity or by showing them a piece of paper, police said. He then stole the victim's property while they were distracted, according to the community alert.

• 2500 block of N. Clark St. on Sept. 4 at 12:30 p.m.
• 2500 block of N. Clark St. on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m.
• 2200 block of N Milwaukee Ave. on Sept. 30 at 11:40 a.m.
• 1900 block of N. Milwaukee Ave. Sept. 30 at 11:50 a.m.
• 2500 block of N. Clark St. on Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.
• 1400 block of N. Milwaukee Ave. on Oct. 3 at 12:30 p.m.
• 1500 block of N. Damen Ave. Oct. 3 at 1:20 p.m.
• 2500 block of N. Clark St. on Oct. 5 at 6:20 p.m.
