Wicker Park Couple Gives Birth to One of the First Babies in 2016 in Chicago

It's a boy!

On Friday, Jan. 1, at 12:36 a.m., Nelida Alvarez and Faustino Delgado of Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood welcomed a new addition to their family at Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center (PSMEMC).  Jimmy Delgado Alvarez was the first baby born at PSMEMC in 2016 and one of the first babies born in Chicago in the new year.

Jimmy was born weighing 6 pounds and 14 ounces and 19 inches in height.

The PSMEMC Birthing Center provided the proud mother and father a gift basket for the special occasion.

“Every new life is special here at Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center,” said Mariel Rueda, the charge nurse on staff at PSMEMC when the baby was born. “However, our first baby of the new year is always extra special since it's a time for us to put a spotlight on one random family and focus on their joy and happiness.”

PSMEMC delivered slightly more than 1,400 babies in 2015, up from 1,279 in 2014, a 9 percent increase.
