Wicker Park Man Charged With Attempted Murder In CTA Attack: Cops

The man pushed a woman onto the CTA Red Line tracks in Lake View after she confronted him about peeing in the station, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A man has been charged with attempted murder after he pushed a woman onto the CTA Red Line tracks Sunday on the North Side, police said. The attack happened Sunday at the Belmont station in Lake View, police said.

The woman was standing on the platform just after 4 p.m. when she confronted the man, who was peeing on the tracks, police said. When she turned to walk away, the man punched her down onto the tracks, according to police.

She was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition, police said.

Melvin Doss, 46, who lives in Wicker Park, was recognized by a CTA worker from a surveillance photo that police released after the attack. Doss was taken into custody Tuesday just after 2 p.m. at the CTA Brown Line Kimball Station in Albany Park, police said.

Doss has been charged with felony counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, police said.

He was expected to appear at a bail hearing Wednesday.
