Woman Charged With Homicide in Wicker Park Hit-And-Run

A man was fatally hit while he was crossing West Division Street in 2017, police said.

CHICAGO — A 24-year-old woman has been charged with reckless homicide in a crash that killed a man in 2017, police said. The 23-year-old man was walking across West Division Street on Damen in Wicker Park around 1:30 a.m., when he was struck by a white Toyota Camry, according to police.

The car's driver was identified as Karen Maldonado, 24, of the 2500 block of North McVicker Avenue in the city's Belmont Central neighborhood, police said.

Police said she took off without helping the victim or providing information to police.

A fugitive apprehension team arrested her around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Maldonado has been charged with reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death and aggravated driving under the influence.

She's scheduled to appear in bond court on Thursday.

The victim has been indentified as Eric Judge, 23, of the 2100 block of North Kedzie Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
