Woman Sexually Assaulted in Wicker Park

Woman was assaulted early Monday morning. Man ran off when he was verbally challenged by a passerby who heard woman's screams, cops say.

Chicago police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman in Wicker Park in the early morning hours of Monday.

Police said the woman was walking in the 1700 block of West Pierce Avenue around 1:54 a.m. when she was approached from behind and tackled to the ground.

The man climbed on top of the woman, ripped her pants open and assaulted her, police said.

A passerby heard the woman screaming for help and verbally challenged her attacker. Police said the man then fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The offender is described as a male black, 25- 40 years old, 5-feet-8-inches to 6 feet tall and wearing 180-220 pounds. He was wearing a dark coat and dark pants, and may possibly be armed with a handgun, police said.
