1 Dead After Intoxicated, Wrong-Way Driver Causes Wheeling Crash: Police

The collision killed the other vehicle's driver — a 53-year-old — authorities said.

WHEELING, IL — A wrong-way driver struck another vehicle, killing its driver Sunday in Wheeling, officials said. Police believe the suspect was intoxicated.

An eastbound vehicle was traveling on westbound Palatine at 2:15 a.m. when it struck an oncoming car and killed its 53-year-old driver, authorities said. Police haven't disclosed the identities of anyone involved.

Each vehicle had two occupants. One person sustained a serious but non-life-threatening injury, police said.

Crash investigators were on-scene as of late Sunday morning, according to Al Steffen, Wheeling's deputy police chief.

No further information will be available until Monday, police said.
