100 Stevenson Students Walk Out To Protest ICE: School District
Officials said a plan to ensure the safety of students and to have minimal impact on Friday's school day was utilized.
LINCOLNSHIRE, IL — Students at Adlai E. Stevenson High School held a walkout Friday morning to protest immigration enforcement activity happening in the area and across the country.
A Stevenson High School District 125 spokesperson told Patch that approximately 100 students participated in the event.
In a letter to Stevenson students and families shared with Patch, Troy Gobble, Stevenson principal, and Eric Ramos, assistant principal for operations, said its team "activated a plan to ensure the safety of our students and minimal impact to the school day."

"We recognize that this issue, along with its ongoing coverage in media and social media, has made this topic a difficult and emotionally charged one for many students and families," the letter continues.
Officials said students looking for support navigating or processing their emotions as a result of the walkout, can reach out to a member of their Student Support Team.

"We appreciate your partnership and support of our efforts to ensure ongoing empathy, understanding, respect and civility throughout our school community," the letter concludes.
