14 Hospitalized After Chemical Leak at Lincolnshire Pool
Two teens were in critical condition and 12 others injured after authorities responded to the hazmat situation Thursday afternoon.
LINCOLNSHIRE, IL — Two teens were taken to the hospital in critical condition after chemicals leaked out at a community pool in Lincolnshire Thursday afternoon, ABC 7 Chicago reports. Twelve others were also hospitalized with less severe injuries. Authorities responded to the hazmat situation at the pool, located at 445 Village Green, at 2:20 p.m. for a possible chlorine or carbon monoxide leak, village officials said in a statement. The pool was being serviced when the leak occurred.
Police told the Chicago Sun-Times a male and female were found passed out at the pool and taken to Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition. In addition, 12 others were taken to the hospital after being exposed to the fumes. They included six police officers, four firefighters and four civilians, according to ABC 7.
As of Thursday evening, the teens were doing better and fire officials said none of the first responders suffered life-threatening injuries.

Residents in the area were told to stay indoors and keep their windows closed and ventilation systems off for a portion of the afternoon Thursday. The hazmat situation was resolved around 6:30 p.m., according to village officials.
