2 Found Dead With Gunshot Wounds On Residential Street: Wheeling PD

WHEELING, IL — Two people were found fatally shot in a road early Sunday in Wheeling, according to police.

Authorities received a 911 call just before 5 a.m. for a person down near the intersection of Lakeview Drive and Buffalo Grove Road, police said. Officers found a male and female, dead, with gunshot wounds, according to police, who added a handgun was found nearby.

"Based upon preliminary investigation and evidence we do not believe there is a greater threat to the community," police said in a news release. "Investigators at the scene will continue to work with the Cook County Medical Examiner's (Office) to positively identify the decedents."

The intersection where the bodies were found is in a residential area, surrounded by houses, apartments and a large public park. No additional information about the investigation was expected until Monday, according to police.
