2024 'Best' High School List: Where Does Buffalo Grove Rank?

U.S. News & World Report released its annual list Tuesday, and some local schools ranked high in the state.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — In all, 673 Illinois public high schools ranked as among the best in the country for quality education, according to a report released Tuesday from U.S. News & World Report. Buffalo Grove High School made it into the top 100 high schools in the state.

According to the list, Buffalo Grove is the No. 47 best high school in Illinois, and ranked No. 1,070 in the United States.

  • AP participation rate is 55 percent
  • Total minority enrollment is 48 percent
  • Student to teacher ratio is 18:1
  • Graduation rate is 95 percent
  • Mathematics proficiency is 46 percent
  • Reading proficiency is 42 percent
  • Science proficiency is 69 percent

In the 2024 Best High Schools list, Illinois ranks 24th among U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Among the 673 of ranked schools, 37 are in the top 5 percent nationally, 159 were in the top 25 percent.

State-by-state performance is based solely on which states have the largest proportion of schools in the top 25 percent.

The top high schools have students who score exceptionally high on math, reading and science assessments, as well strong performance among under-served students. High school graduation rates and college readiness among graduates are also measured.
