5 Ways to Be More Organized When You're Running Your Business
Tips for keeping your business organized so that it can run at its full potential.

Have you ever worked in an office that was in complete disarray; files were misplaced, team meetings a myth, company goals non-existent and communication poor? Unfortunately, it happens more often than it should. It’s also the downfall of what could have been many great businesses. How can you stop it from happening to your business? Keep it organized!
1. Out with the old and in with the new. Most companies have a program in place that purges old emails and archives old files. Not only does this free up space on your hard drive, but it keeps your system up-to-date. Consider scanning old paper files into the system, so that they’re easier to archive and back up. This will free up room in your office. Also, recycle old electronics. If you’re no longer using it and it’s lost its purpose, get rid of it.
2. Go green. With advancements in technology, almost everything can be done electronically. Saving documents electronically not only saves space in your office, but it’s easier to back up and store for longer periods of time without worrying that it will get destroyed or misplaced. It will also save your company fiscally as the need for ink and paper will decrease drastically.

3. A team that works together, stays together. It sounds commonsensical, but people often overlook this: have weekly team meetings. Keeping everyone up-to-date of changes, activities, procedures or simply getting everyone together to address any issues is a good idea. It allows for open communication in a business and creates room for progress. For instance, an employee who would generally not have an opportunity to voice his opinion could offer up a new idea in a weekly meeting that would benefit the business exponentially.
4. Arriving at one goal is the starting point for another. Set goals. The best way to keep people on track and organized is to commit to weekly, monthly and/or yearly goals. Write them down, and then break them down into simple steps you can use to execute on those goals.

5. Remember to have fun. The best way to produce better work ethic and inspire great employees is to give them incentives. Organize employee appreciation days, reward them for reaching goals or finishing projects, treat them to holiday dinners or give out anniversary gifts. Make them look forward to coming to work and the work they produce will be more effective.
Having an organized business isn’t just good for the books, it’s good for the employees. The longest running businesses are still there because they’re efficient and keep abreast of new changes and progress. Don’t let chaos be your downfall, start organizing now!
