Now that spring is here, it’s time to talk about spring-cleaning and outdoor chores! Although not the most preferable of things to do, we all have to take care of our homes after they took care of us throughout the winter. Here are some spring-cleaning ideas and outdoor chores that are good things to check off your to-do list!
Spring Cleaning Ideas
1. Organize Your Closet – There are not many better ways to kick off your spring-cleaning than by organizing what can sometimes be the messiest part of your house! There is a certain satisfaction that comes with making sure you know where all essential closet items are at any given time. Get rid of unused clothes, and organize it in terms of how you get ready in the morning.

2. Deep Clean Your House – This is a good thing to do a couple times a year, and in the spirit of spring-cleaning, the time has never been better! Clean your carpets, polish you cabinets, and paint over any stains on your walls. Obviously, just a couple of ideas right here, but this is the time to really get down and dirty to clean the winter blues right out of your house!
3. Clean Your Garage – During the winter, your garage most likely becomes a semi-permanent storage place for everything you don’t have room for or need in your house. Not to mention the amount of snow, ice, and dirt a car can track in and leave on the ground throughout a Chicago winter like ours. My recommendation is to first clean everything out! Completely empty your garage, and then give it a deep clean with your hose and a couple of scrub brushes. Once this is done, organize your things, throw out any garbage, and put it all back in depending on how frequently you use them.

Outdoor Chores
1. Clean Your Gutters – Probably not the first thing on anyone’s to-do list, but it can be extremely important for you to check and clean your gutters! Failure to do so can negatively impact your house by causing floods, back-ups, and even the need for new gutters. Do it now before it gets to be too late!
2. Wash Your Windows – Chances are your windows are full of dirt and grime that have accumulated during the winter. This, although not necessary, is something that will give your house a fresh, spring look with sparkling windows to look through. Even if it’s still a bit too chilly to be window sitting, it is a great thing to knock off your spring chores list.
3. Take Care of the Garden – Regardless of garden size, everyone in the Chicago area has been negatively affected by the large amount of snow this winter. Uncover your plants, remove any weeds, prune your shrubs and add some new mulch to refresh the color of your garden! Although these do not all have to been done at the same time, it is always nice to get a head start on your gardening this year.
As the saying goes, “The home is where the heart is.” This means we have to take care of our homes after they kept us warm and dry this past winter. Spring-cleaning can be a dubious process, especially when you’re caught without homeowners insurance! Things go wrong, it’s a fact of life, which is why I’m telling you to call today and figure out what type of homeowners insurance package you qualify for. It’s never too late, especially when it comes to what you rely on the most!
