Ambulance Driver Cited in Rollover Crash That Injured 1 in Buffalo Grove
The crash happened at Arlington Heights and Dundee roads Friday night. A Wheeling woman was injured in the crash.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL - The driver for a private ambulance company has been cited following a two-vehicle crash in Buffalo Grove Friday night. The force from crash, which happened at the intersection of Arlington Heights and Dundee roads, caused the ambulance to roll over and resulted in one person being taken to the hospital, Buffalo Grove Sgt. Tony Goldstein said.
The driver of the ambulance Samuel Stein, 23, of Skokie, was cited for disobeying a traffic signal, Goldstein said. Stein works for Elite Medical.
The crash happened at about 10 p.m. on Aug. 5 when the ambulance, which was heading south on Arlington Heights Road, proceeded through the intersection of Dundee and Arlington Heights Road while the traffic signal was red. The ambulance collided with a vehicle that was heading east on Dundee, Goldstein said. The driver of the vehicle, Kathleen Stumpfoll, 52, of Wheeling, was taken to Northwest Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

While the ambulance’s lights and sirens were activated prior to the crash, police determined the ambulance did not slow down enough to safely enter and clear the intersection, which resulted in the crash and also resulted in Stein receiving a ticket, Goldstein said.
Stein and a front seat passenger were not injured in the crash. Also, a patient in the ambulance at the time of the crash did not receive further injuries because of the crash, Goldstein said.
