• Vernon Hills man charged in assault at Buffalo Grove hotel: police (fox32chicago.com) — Buffalo Grove police say a woman was injured in an April 16 attack at the Extended Stay hotel on E. Busch Parkway, and a 28-year-old Vernon Hills man now faces felony aggravated battery and unlawful restraint charges. The victim was treated at a hospital, and the suspect was later arrested with help from Palatine police and is awaiting a court date.    

• School Security Guard Dies Shielding Students From Falling Pole (wideopencountry.com) — Buffalo Grove is mourning school security guard Orlando Rivas, who died after shielding students from a falling pole near Buffalo Grove High School. The 52-year-old father of four was critically injured when a car hit the pole, and officials are praising his courage as police continue investigating the crash.    

• Senate committee passes bill to protect prescription info for trans, abortion patients (shawlocal.com) — State Sen. Adriane Johnson of Buffalo Grove is backing a bill to keep prescriptions for testosterone and abortion medications out of Illinois’ Prescription Monitoring Program, aiming to bolster medical privacy. The proposal, which passed a Senate committee on a partisan vote, is framed as protecting transgender and abortion patients from potential targeting or surveillance.
