BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The Buffalo Grove Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Illinois for the 2026 “Click It or Ticket” campaign during the Memorial Day travel period, with stepped-up seat belt enforcement continuing through May 26.
“Buckle up every trip, every time,” Sgt. Meghan Hansen said in a news release shared with Patch. “Seat belts save lives, and we are committed to keeping our roads safe.”

During the campaign, officers will conduct high-visibility enforcement during both daytime and nighttime hours, with a focus on seat belt violations. Motorists who are not buckled up can expect to be stopped and ticketed.
Illinois law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts. Although statewide seat belt use rose to 93 percent in 2025, unrestrained fatalities remain a concern, particularly during nighttime travel.
The “Click It or Ticket” campaign is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
