Arlington Heights Man Charged After Gunfire At Buffalo Grove Apartment Complex

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — An Arlington Heights man faces three felony charges after police said he fired a gun toward another person during a domestic altercation at a Buffalo Grove apartment complex.

Ernie Dotson, 38, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated domestic battery and unlawful possession of a firearm following an investigation by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

Buffalo Grove officers responded at about 9 a.m. Saturday, July 11, to The Arbors of Buffalo Grove on Oak Creek Drive to assist Cook County sheriff’s deputies with a domestic incident.

Investigators allege Dotson produced a firearm and discharged it toward another person during an altercation in the apartment complex’s parking lot. The gunfire struck the alleged victim’s vehicle, but no injuries were reported.

Sheriff’s deputies detained Dotson and a juvenile family member before Buffalo Grove officers arrived. Both were taken to the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

Investigators recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the incident near the area of the altercation, police said.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges against Dotson:

The juvenile was released without charges.

Dotson was transported to the Cook County Jail on July 12 and appeared in court that day. He remains detained pending his next court appearance, scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 7 at the Cook County Third Municipal District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

Buffalo Grove police thanked the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the officers and investigators who worked on the case.
