WHEELING, IL — Chicago Executive Airport temporarily closed to air traffic Tuesday evening after a business jet became stuck while exiting a runway, airport officials said.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:27 p.m. after a Dassault Falcon 50 landed on Runway 16.
As the three-engine jet turned onto Taxiway K5, its right main landing gear left the paved surface and became lodged in an adjacent unpaved area, according to the airport.
Emergency personnel responded, and the airport immediately halted flight operations.
The two people aboard the aircraft were not injured.
One of the airport's two runways reopened at 6:38 p.m., allowing limited flight operations to resume.
Airport officials said they were awaiting authorization from the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration before removing the aircraft from the taxiway area.
Recovery operations will begin after that approval is received, with the airport working to restore full operations as quickly and safely as possible.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
