BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Buffalo Grove plans to replace its deteriorated gateway signs and add four new ones at key entrances to the village, part of a broader effort to strengthen community identity.
Village officials said the existing signs have reached the end of their useful life.
The project grew out of Buffalo Grove's 2023 Moving BG Forward community engagement initiative, which involved more than 1,000 participants and helped shape the village's Strategic Plan, Community Brand and Comprehensive Plan.
Buffalo Grove's 2024-2028 Strategic Plan identified new gateway signs as a priority under its goal of strengthening community identity and pride.
Village officials said residents expressed a desire for more recognizable entrances because of Buffalo Grove's unique municipal boundaries.
The project will include replacement of the existing gateway signs along with four additional signs at important entry points.
Five or six signs are expected to be installed in 2026.
The remaining signs are scheduled for completion in 2027 after engineering, easement and permitting work is finished.
