BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The Buffalo Grove Park District's Community Arts Center has a new name honoring Scott Jacobson, who has served on the park board for 25 years.
The district held a dedication ceremony and unveiled a new entrance sign Sept. 19 following the Board of Commissioners' decision in June to rename the facility the Scott Jacobson Community Arts Center.
First elected in April 2001, Jacobson is the second-longest-serving commissioner in the district's history. He has been elected to seven consecutive four-year terms, according to the park district.
"While it is difficult to put into words what it feels like to have a building named after you, what means the most is the opportunity I have had to serve this wonderful community and work alongside dedicated commissioners, staff, volunteers, and residents to make Buffalo Grove an even better place to live," Jacobson said.
Family, friends and community leaders attended the ceremony. Among them were state Sen. Adriane Johnson, state Rep. Daniel Didech, Village President Eric Smith, School District 21 board member Arlen Gould, Park Board President Hetal Wallace and Commissioner Kim Page.
Jacobson thanked his family, friends, district staff, colleagues and residents for supporting him throughout his tenure.
"This honor belongs to all of you as much as it does to me," he said. "Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving this community for the past 25 years. I look forward to continuing that service in the years ahead."
Wallace said the renaming recognizes Jacobson's decades of work for the community.
"Commissioner Jacobson has spent decades working to make our community a better place to live, play, and grow," Wallace said. "Naming this facility after Scott ensures his legacy of service will inspire families for generations to come."
