Buffalo Grove High School's Scholastic Bowl teams, both varsity and junior varsity, have had amazingly successful seasons. Led by seniors and MSL "All-Stars," Matt Wilber and Bernard Xie, the varsity Scholastic Bowl team won its Sectional tournament on March 10, thus qualifying for State.
"This is the first time in school history we have made it to state, and we are one of only eight teams to qualify," said varsity coach Brian Foecking. "We advanced by beating Fremd, Rolling Meadows, and Stevenson High Schools."
Buffalo Grove's varsity team has an impressive overall record of 42-9, 9-1 in the MSL (Mid-Suburban League). This season the team garnered an array of championship wins: the MSL East Championship, MSL Conference Championship, Regional Championship, and now, the Sectional Championship. Buffalo Grove's varsity team will head to Peoria to compete in the State tournament on Friday, March 16.
The development team for the brain trust at Buffalo Grove, the Scholastic Bowl's Junior Varsity team, is coached by Chris Karl, and stands on its own as a force to be reckoned with. The JV team won the MSL East Championship this season, losing only to Fremd in the MSL Championship tournament. The team's overall record is 46-13, 10-1 in the MSL. Led by sophomores Max Farbman and Danny Weiner, with strong contributions from sophomores Eric van Wazer and Katya Konova, the JV team has had one of its most memorable seasons on record.
