Saint Mary Parish has been a corner stone in
the Buffalo Grove community for more than 159 years, with the first church established in 1853. A new chapter in
its rich history has just begun with the appointment of its 15th pastor, Reverend Daniel Whiteside.
Whiteside is no stranger to the northwest suburbs. He graduated and was ordained in 1992 from the University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein Seminary, Mundelein, IL. Having grown up in Arlington Heights he attended Saint James Parish School and Saint Viator High School. Whiteside said he is familiar with the area and "already knows so many from St. James and St. Viator and
recognizes many faces from over 30 years ago."
He has spent the last 12 years as pastor of St. Catherine
Sienna-St. Lucy in Oak Park, which similar to Saint Mary, is a parish with a grade school. Now, as the new pastor to
one of the largest Catholic congregations in Lake County, he has much to look forward to.

Excited to learn the parish, the resources available and
getting to know all the various groups within the Parish will take time. He also plans to learn more about the village
of Buffalo Grove and meet the other community leaders. “As a pastor, my outlook is fairly simple:
It’s all about the ministry and the presence of Christ”. Saint Mary Parishioners and school children
welcomed Fr. Whiteside with open arms the first weekend in July as they celebrated mass together.
