BG High School Graduate Promoted to U.S. Navy Commander

Navy Lt. Cmdr. Nicholas G. Kalks, a 1999 graduate of Buffalo Grove High School is an a intelligence officer with 16 years of naval service.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Navy Lt. Cmdr. Nicholas G. Kalks, a 1999 graduate of Buffalo Grove High School, recently received a promotion to the rank of Commander while serving with Student Attache Training Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Washington, D.C.

Kalks, a native of Chicago, is an a intelligence officer with sixteen years of naval service. His career has taken he, his wife Hoce, and their three children, all over the globe with duty stations in Hawaii, Washington, D.C., the United Kingdom, Newport, Rhode Island, and Norfolk, Virginia.

Additionally, Kalkas has completed four combat deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and other areas within the Middle East. He and his wife are currently undergoing diplomat training for an upcoming assignment to Singapore.

DIA provides military intelligence to warfighters, defense policymakers, and force planners in the Department of Defense and intelligence community in support of U.S. military planning, operations, and acquisition. They plan, manage, and execute intelligence operations during peacetime, crisis, and war.
