Last Howard Finster Lecture Hosted By David Leonardis - This Friday Night in Long Grove

If you are an art lover, or just looking for something new to learn, come to the Long Grove Confectionary this Friday at 7pm for a lecture hosted by David Leonardis on artist Howard Finster.

Howard Finster, American folk artist, has come to the historic Village of Long Grove. Curator and gallery owner David Leonardis, will be holding the last of 3 lectures this Friday night at 7pm, in Long Grove. Leonardis, an old friend of Finster's, is trying to spread Finster's work far and wide. He says, "I am honored to keep his legacy alive."

Probably most known for his detailed designs on REM and Talking Heads CD covers, Finster interestingly started out as a Baptist Reverend, until he found his true knack shortly after retiring: art. He has pieces of work at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C., the Library of Congress, and many other places around the world. In conjunction with the Howard Finster Vision House exhibit in Georgia, Long Grove will be the first stop of the traveling exhibit. So Why Long Grove, you may ask? Leonardis says, “Long Grove is a community with its own character and a history in community involvement in the arts.....it's the perfect backdrop."

So head out to the Long Grove Confectionary (2nd floor, 220 Robert Parker Coffin Rd. Long Grove, IL 60047) to listen and learn from David Leonardis - it's your last chance! Reception starts at 5:30pm, and the lecture will begin at 7:00pm. The Howard Finster traveling exhibit will also be available at the Long Grove Woodlands Gallery until January 31st, 2012.
