BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Eleven local kids were recently the lucky recipients of toys as part of the annual "Shopping with Heroes" event. Members of the Buffalo Grove police and fire departments shopped with the kids on Saturday at Target in Wheeling.

The kids were able to shop for themselves and family members as part of the volunteer event. The first-responders shopped with the kids, encouraging the selection of both educational items and their desired gifts, according to organizers. They then used the reminder of the gift cards to shop for families and loved ones. Following the shopping, the children gathered at the police station for gift wrapping, pizza and treats.

"Our first responders look forward to this event every year," Police Chief Brian Budds said. "We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the many volunteers who helped make the holidays special for kids in our community and their families."
