BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Buffalo Grove High School has closed Thursday due to mechanical problems related to the HVAC system, according to Township High School District 214. Officials said on social media and on the district website that school buses will either take students back to their bus stops or inform students at the stop of today’s closure.

"While maintenance personnel are working on this matter, we do not expect that the issues can be resolved in a way that will make the school sufficiently comfortable to conduct classes — particularly considering today’s high heat index. Therefore, school will be closed today," District 214 said.

In addition, the district said coaches and sponsors will contact students concerning scheduled practices and other co-curricular activities by noon.

"We recognize the timing of this decision is far from ideal and sincerely apologize for this unforeseen inconvenience and disruption to our schedule," District 214 said. "The timing of our system failure and resulting conditions in the building forced a later than desired decision timeline."
