Buffalo Grove High School Qualifies for Illinois Economics Challenge State Competition
Eight Buffalo Grove High School students have qualified to participate in the annual Illinois Economics Challenge State Finals, a program of Econ Illinois. Qualifying BGHS students include Fred Etingen, Max Farbman, Daron Bedian, Jake Siebert, Ryan Eischen, Rushi Patel, Sam Welbel, and Steven Donnewald. Peter Duffer and Keith Peterson are their teacher sponsors.
The state level competition is a Money Smart Event that will be held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago on Thursday, April 10. This spring 394 high school students across the state registered to compete in teams online to qualify for the State Championship. Forty students have advanced to compete in Chicago.
"We are excited to send two teams to the Econ Challenge State Finals,” Duffer said. “These students have excelled in the classroom and are poised for both current and future success. Their critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities are excellent. We are hoping for an all BG state final showdown on Thursday."

The Illinois Economics Challenge (ILEC) is a program of Econ Illinois, the premier provider of economics and personal finance support for K-12 schools in Illinois. ILEC is a comprehensive academic competition for students at the Advanced Placement level for economics, with students competing in teams of four. Econ Challenge is competitive and fun, and offers an atmosphere where economic knowledge is tested and recognized through four levels of competition that ultimately leads to the announcement of a National Economics Challenge 1st Place team.
The 1st and 2nd Place teams at the State level in Illinois will each received a trophy, individual medals and certificates as well as Visa gift cards. All participating schools receive a framed certificate for their school.
