Buffalo Grove Police Issue 52 Cituations During 'Speed Enforcement Day'

The Buffalo Grove Police Department participated in Speed Awareness Day, a large-scale effort across the state of Illinois meant to reduce speeding on Illinois roads. The enforcement campaign was held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.

Buffalo Grove police issued 52 citations for speeding, with a goal of decreasing traffic fatalities caused by individuals who drive over the speed limit on streets and roadways throughout the In 2014, 348 lives were lost due to speed-related crashes on Illinois roadways. In addition, speeding accounted for more than one-third of all crashes that involved injuries.

Vehicle crashes are not the only incidents which result from increased speed. Pedestrians are shown to survive 90-percent of the time when struck by vehicles traveling at 20 miles per hour or less. That number decreases to 50-percent when vehicles are traveling at 30 miles per hour.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department continues to focus on making the village roads safer. The motto regarding speeding is, “slow down and arrive alive!”
