Buffalo Grove Police Ramp Up St. Patrick's Day DUI Enforcement

Police are warning drivers to not drive drunk as Thursday's holiday approaches.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — "Drive sober or get pulled over" is a mantra the Buffalo Grove Police Department is reminding residents of as they get set for St. Patrick's Day on Thursday. Police have been conducting extra driving under the influence enforcement since last Friday and will continue to do so through this Friday.

The increased enforcement is part of the Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over and Drive High Or Get a DUI campaigns from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

In addition to pulling over drivers who appear to be impaired by alcohol or drugs, the department said it will step up seat belt enforcement — particularly at night, when seat belt usage rates are lowest. Speeding, distracted driving and other traffic laws will also be strictly enforced.

  • Buckle up, as it’s your best defense in the event of a crash.
  • Remember, pedestrians are at risk too. If you’re walking, keep an eye out for cars. If you’re driving, remain alert for impaired pedestrians who may not obey street signs.
