Buffalo Grove Police Stepping Up Speed Enforcement In July

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Buffalo Grove police will increase traffic enforcement throughout July as part of a statewide effort to reduce speeding, officials said.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies for the campaign, which runs from July 7 through Aug. 1.

During the enforcement period, motorists can expect increased patrols in Buffalo Grove and across Illinois looking for speeding and other traffic violations, according to police.

"Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving," Deputy Police Chief Tara Anderson said. "No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous. Speed limits aren’t a suggestion — they are the law."

Police said speeding creates unnecessary risks for all drivers, including reducing a motorist's ability to safely steer around other vehicles, hazards or unexpected curves.

During the campaign, officers will intensify enforcement of posted speed limits. Drivers who are stopped for speeding should expect to be ticketed, police said.

The enforcement effort is part of the "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign and is made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT. It also supports IDOT's broader "It's Not a Game" media campaign.
