Buffalo Grove Students Earn National Merit Honors

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Seventy-four High School District 214 students, including a number from Buffalo Grove, have been honored as National Merit Scholarship Finalists, Semifinalists or College Board National Recognition Program Scholars.

The National Merit Scholarship Program, conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation, is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships. The competition is open to all U.S. high school students who meet published participation requirements. Scholarship winners are chosen on the basis of their abilities, skills, and accomplishments.

District 214 National Merit Finalists from Buffalo Grove High School are: Vishnuh Bala, Celia Cortopassi, Irina Kryukov, Kevin Rabinak, Spencer Sadler and Harmony Sosa from Buffalo Grove High School.

College Board National Recognition Program Scholars from Buffalo Grove High School are: Bruno Ibrahim-Betts, Troy Kowalski, Marisa Kurowski, Santino Macaggi, Ximena Jaramillo, Alex Muzquiz, Harmony Sosa and Andrea Yeverino.

Also named as College Board National Program Recognition Scholars from Wheeling High School are: Sara Aranda, Andreea Haideu, Delanee Hernandez, Vanessa Joya, Julia Konrath, Peter Kubakh, Ivaylo Maksinov, Michelle Mendoza-Sandoval, Jennifer Roman, Jackson Schmitt, Yalixa Segundo and Carlos Velasquez.
