Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band Presents Formal Concert April 24 at Stevenson Performing Arts Center

The Symphonic Band is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary with a look back

The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band is celebrating a significant milestone in 2016; it’s 15th anniversary. To honor this very special occasion, the band will showcase music from their very first performance, as well new music entitled "Outset” which was commissioned and dedicated to the Band by composer Casey Dahl. The Jazz Band will also look back in time to the music of Mercer and Ellington, and cover contemporary scores with the rockin' version of Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk.” The concert will open by looking in BOTH directions (to a time long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away) with the classic and ever-current theme from Star Wars.

In the last fifteen years, the band has performed over a hundred concerts to capacity audiences, including formal concerts each year at Stevenson and Buffalo Grove high schools, as well as holiday concerts at local churches over the Christmas holidays and summer concerts at Buffalo Grove Days, Willow Stream Park, and the Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival. Their annual Independence Day Concert at the Buffalo Grove Rotary Green has become a yearly tradition that brings more than 3,000 people to hear the performance two hours before the start of the village’s fireworks display.

“I am so very proud of all the current and former members of this ensemble and what we have accomplished in the last fifteen years,” stated Conductor Howard Green.

The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band was founded in October 2001 by the Village of Buffalo Grove Arts Commission, under the leadership of Green, who is the Music Director and Conductor. The band is the first and only adult community instrumental group in the village. It is an integral part of Buffalo Grove's extensive promotion of the arts, along with other non-instrumental music groups, drama productions, and arts events that occur regularly throughout the year. In its fifteen-year history, the band has grown into one of the premiere community bands in northern Illinois.

Plan to attend Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band’s Fifteenth Annual Spring Concert – “Looking Back, Looking Forward’ on April 24, 2016 at 7:00pm at the Stevenson Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available in advance via the Village's webpage at http://www.vbg.org/896/Purchase-Concert-Tickets.
