'Coffee For Champions' Returns Aug. 20 With Buffalo Grove Police

The former "Cop on a Rooftop" event will raise money for the Special Olympics Illinois.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Though the name may have changed, the reason behind the annual event has not. "Coffee For Champions," formerly called "Cop On A Rooftop," returns throughout Illinois on Friday, Aug. 20, including in Buffalo Grove.

The fundraiser for Special Olympics Illinois will run from 5 a.m. to noon at two Dunkin' Donuts locations — 1149 McHenry Road and 245 McHenry Road.

This year marks the 18th anniversary of the Dunkin' with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. This event has been a huge success over the years. More than $5.75 million has been raised in Illinois, according to the Special Olympics Illinois website.

Each guest who makes a donation to the Torch Run will receive a coupon for a free donut. Guests who donate $10 or more will receive a Law Enforcement Torch Run travel mug (while supplies last) and a coupon for a free medium hot coffee. This year’s goal is to raise more than $870,000 for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois.
