WHEELING, IL — A Wednesday crash involving a tractor trailer shut down a busy intersection for nearly an hour. Police were advising drivers to avoid the intersection of Wheeling and Palatine roads following an accident at around 11 a.m. The accident happened near the Lake + House apartment complex.

A tractor trailer was attempting to turn from the eastbound Palatine express lanes onto northbound Wheeling Road when it hit a westbound vehicle that had the right of way, police told Patch. There was significant damage to the car and the driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"The tractor trailer was in the incorrect lane to make the turn it made and did so against existing signage and standards," Deputy Chief of Police Field Services Alan Steffen said.
