Driver Hospitalized Following Head-On Crash In Long Grove

A 3-year-old was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries following Friday's accident.

LONG GROVE, IL — Several people were hospitalized Friday, one in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, following a head-on car crash in Long Grove. The accident, which happened at around 3:20 p.m. at Route 53 and Schaeffer Road, involved two vehicles, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2013 Chevrolet Cruz, driven by a 24-year-old Waukegan woman, was traveling northbound on Route 53. The driver crossed into the southbound lanes of traffic and struck a southbound 2009 Honda Accord, driven by a 34-year-old Hanover Park woman, head-on. Police said it's possible the driver of the Chevrolet swerved to avoid a different vehicle turning left onto Schaeffer Road.

The Waukegan woman was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, with critical, life-threatening injuries. She currently remains in the hospital with serious injuries that are no longer believed to be life-threatening.
